Life Aquatic dives into the strange and beautiful underwater world documented by Marcus Elieser Bloch, the 18th-century German physician and naturalist behind one of the most extraordinary works of early ichthyology. His monumental Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische brought together hundreds of meticulously illustrated fish species, capturing them with an almost surreal level of color, character and detail.
We fell in love with Bloch’s illustrations and their wonderful mix of scientific precision and eccentricity. Using these original public-domain works, we respectfully upscaled and adapted the illustrations into a richly detailed wallpaper collection, allowing fish drawn more than two centuries ago to swim again across contemporary walls.
